Is it bad to want people to like us when we are selling to them?  Believe it or not, I have heard managers tell people they are not there to make friends.  Just sell.  If you have managers like that, fire them.  If you are a manager lie that, do us all a favor and fire yourself.  Why wouldn’t we want someone to like us?  People want to buy from people they know and trust.  That sounds like a friend to me.

So, how do we get people to like us?  Are there rules?  Well, there are certainly some guidelines that we can use in or life:

1)    We like people who like us.

2)    We like people who are like us.

3)    We like people who can teach us without preaching at us.

4)    We like people who lift our spirits.

5)    We like people who pay attention to us.

6)    We like people who are approachable.

7)    We like people who are genuine.

8)    We like people who we associate with positive feelings.

9)    We like people who are courteous.

10) We like people who we are familiar with.

11) We like people who don’t take themselves too seriously.

12) We like people who are beautiful on the inside.

So, the next time you wonder if you are liked, ask yourself these question.  You will probably get the answer – whether you like it or not.
